Privacy

This is a static content site. There is very little to privacy-policy here, and we intend to keep it that way.

No accounts, no stored personal data

The site has no registration, no comments, no newsletters with stored subscriber lists, and no forms that submit data to us. We do not ask for your name or email to read any article.

Analytics

Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views for everyone. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and cannot follow you between sites: measurement is aggregate, and there is no per-visitor profile. Because it stores nothing, it needs no permission — but the switch below still stops our pages from loading it.

Google Analytics runs only if you allow it. It is off until you press Allow, and pressing Decline keeps it off permanently on this device. When allowed, it sets its own cookies and builds a per-visitor profile; we truncate your IP address and switch off Google's advertising and personalisation signals, but the profile still exists and Google processes it under its own policies. Your answer is kept in this browser's local storage, not in a cookie.

Once allowed, it records more than page views: which links you follow, how far into an article you scroll, when you copy a command, and what you type into the search box on this site. Search terms are the one thing there that you author yourself, so do not type anything into it you would not want recorded. None of it is attached to a name or an email address, because we hold neither.

To change your answer, clear this site's data in your browser and reload the page — the question will be asked again.

Share links

The share buttons at the end of each article append utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign to the link they hand you. Those record which channel a link travelled through. They say nothing about you, they do not identify the person who copied the link, and the article opens exactly the same with the query string deleted.

Pressing one never posts anything on your behalf and sends us no notification: each button is an ordinary link to that platform’s own compose screen, which you can still cancel.

Turn measurement off on this device

The switch stops this site from loading either counter in this browser: Google Analytics entirely, and the Cloudflare beacon our own pages load. It covers this browser only, so use it on every device you want left out. Opening /?gk-analytics=off does the same thing, which is the easier route on a phone; /?gk-analytics=on undoes it.

What no switch on this page can reach is counting that happens on our host’s side of the connection rather than in your browser — Cloudflare sees the request whichever way this is set. That layer records requests, not people, and we never join it to anything else.

The switch itself lives in this browser’s local storage. That is the one thing we do keep, and only so that we can honour it.

Hosting

The site is served as static files by Cloudflare Workers. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes standard request metadata (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for security and delivery purposes under its own policies. We do not access or cross-reference those logs for marketing.

Requests

If you believe any of your data reached us anyway, or you have a question about this page, write to hello@guidekit.dev and we will answer within a reasonable time.
